Not every room needs a fixed board on the wall. Training rooms change layout, meeting spaces are shared, and workshops happen wherever there is space. Portable and mobile whiteboards bring the writing surface to the people instead of the other way round.
Where portable boards work best
- Training rooms that switch between classroom, U-shape and group layouts.
- Open-plan offices where teams need a temporary space to plan.
- Workshops and events where boards move between breakout sessions.
- Rented or listed buildings where drilling into walls isn’t allowed.
Types of portable boards
Mobile whiteboards on casters
Mobile whiteboards stand on a frame with wheels, usually with locking casters. Many are double-sided and some rotate, so you can flip to a clean surface without erasing. They are the best choice for rooms used every day.
Easel and tripod boards
Presentation and easel boards fold flat for storage and transport. Height-adjustable legs make them useful for trainers who present standing up, and flipchart clips let you combine paper pads with a dry-erase surface.
Tabletop and small portable boards
Desktop boards and mini whiteboards are ideal for small-group work, one-to-one sessions and trainers who travel.
What to check before buying
- Writing area: 90 × 120 cm is a good all-rounder; 120 × 180 cm suits larger groups.
- Stability: a wide base and locking casters stop the board moving while you write.
- Double-sided surfaces: twice the space, or one whiteboard side and one cork or felt side.
- Height: check the top of the board is reachable and the bottom edge sits above table height.
- Storage: folding frames save space in rooms that are cleared after use.
